Mitsubishi Outlander Sport 1st Gen

20112024 · GA · suv

Compact crossover. Mitsubishi's volume seller in the US for most of the 2010s. Sold globally as the Mitsubishi ASX (most markets) or Mitsubishi RVR (Japan, Canada). Built on the GS platform shared with the Lancer / Outlander of the era. Engines: 2.0L 4B11 I4 (148hp) and 2.4L 4B12 I4 (168hp). CVT or 5-speed manual (early). FWD or AWC all-wheel-drive. Five passengers, two rows. Sold essentially unchanged from 2011 launch through the 2024 model year with mid-cycle styling refreshes, one of the longest-running model runs in the US compact-crossover segment. Production at Mitsubishi's Illinois plant from 2012-2015, then back to Japan.

Watch out: JATCO-supplied CVT is the family failure pattern, similar to Nissan units of the same era. The 2.0L 4B11 is more durable in this naturally-aspirated tune than in the Lancer Evo X turbo form, but the supporting accessories (alternator, water pump) wear at typical high-mileage intervals. Otherwise mechanically straightforward.

Full clubhouse — owner Garage Lineage, common problems, year-by-year notes, and product picks — is on the build list.
