Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross 1st Gen

Compact crossover that controversially reuses the Eclipse nameplate. 1.5L 4B40 turbocharged I4 (152hp / 184 lb-ft). CVT (with eight 'simulated' steps). FWD or AWC all-wheel-drive. Five-passenger. Coupe-style sloping roofline visually distinguishes it from the workaday Outlander Sport. Mid-cycle facelift in 2022 with revised front and rear styling. Sold globally; in some markets a PHEV variant is offered (not in the US through the early production years). The Eclipse-name controversy stuck and the model has not been a commercial breakout.

Watch out: CVT in turbo crossover application is the long-term variable. Mitsubishi's CVT supplier and tuning differs from Nissan's, but the working principle (and the failure mode) is similar. The 1.5L turbo has no major scandals but cooling-system condition matters more than on N/A engines. Otherwise no widespread mechanical issues.
