New CX nameplate slotted next to (not replacing) the CX-5. Skyactiv-G 2.5L I4 (~187hp) or Skyactiv-G 2.5L Turbo I4 (227-256hp). 6-speed Skyactiv automatic. Standard i-Activ AWD (no FWD variant in the US). Five-passenger. Slightly longer and lower than the CX-5, with more aggressive styling and an outdoorsy positioning that includes a Meridian Edition off-road-themed trim. Built at the new Mazda Toyota Manufacturing plant in Huntsville, Alabama. Mazda's first US-built vehicle in a long while. Hybrid variant added later in the run using the Toyota hybrid powertrain.

Watch out: Too new for a developed long-term failure pattern. The 2.5T turbo and Skyactiv-G family carry the same fuel-dilution-in-oil tendency. Watch NHTSA recalls for the early Huntsville production years, new plants typically work through a higher early-build defect rate.
