Maserati Ghibli M157 (3rd Generation)
2014–2024 · M157 · sedan
Built on the Chrysler LX platform (shared lineage with the Charger/300/Quattroporte) on a shorter wheelbase than the Quattroporte. Engines: 3.0L F160 twin-turbo V6 (330-350hp base, 410-430hp S) built by Ferrari in Maranello, and the 3.8L F154 twin-turbo V8 (580hp) in the Trofeo. Production ended December 2023 — the last Maserati on the LX platform. Maserati sold 6,000 in the first year, making it the brand's bestseller until the Levante launched.
Watch out: Timing-chain-tensioner failure on the F160 3.0L V6 — a well-documented issue across Ferrari-built Maserati V6s (Ghibli, Quattroporte, Levante). The plastic chain guides also wear, and the result on a failed tensioner is often catastrophic valvetrain damage. Service intervals from the dealer are not aggressive enough — independent specialists recommend chain-system inspection every 60-80k miles. Electronics and infotainment are also significant cost drivers.
Full clubhouse — owner Garage Lineage, common problems, year-by-year notes, and product picks — is on the build list.
