Lincoln Navigator 2nd Generation (U228)

Second-gen Navigator (U228) — Lincoln-spec Expedition U222 with independent rear suspension and luxury appointments. Single engine: 5.4L 3-valve InTech V8 (300hp, 2005-2006) and 5.4L DOHC InTech (300hp, 2003-2004 Navigator-only with the 32-valve head). 4-speed 4R75E automatic. RWD or 4WD. Power running boards, power-folding third row, and THX-certified audio were the headline luxury items.

Watch out: 5.4L 3-valve Triton (2005-2006) shares the Expedition's well-known broken-spark-plug-in-head pattern — Time-Sert repair and updated single-piece plugs are the standard fix. The DOHC 5.4L InTech (2003-2004 Navigator-exclusive) is a different engine and doesn't share the issue, but cam-phaser and timing-chain-tensioner wear are the long-term watch items. Air suspension (rear) leaks at the bag seams around 100k — common replacement job.
