Lexus LS XF20 (2nd Generation, LS 400)

The XF20 LS 400 kept the 1UZ-FE 4.0L V8 (gaining VVT-i and more power in 1998) on a lighter, stiffer body. Same legendary build quality, slightly more modern feel, larger interior. The 1998 mid-cycle update added VVT-i, a five-speed automatic, and styling tweaks.

Watch out: Owner reports of 1UZ-FE timing belt service at the 90k-mile interval being the maintenance milestone that decides a car's value, plus radiator and heater core replacements as miles climb. Power-window regulators and aging suspension air bladders (where fitted) are common.
