Lexus LS XF10 (1st Generation, LS 400)
1990–1994 · XF10 · sedan
The original LS 400 launched the Lexus brand in 1989 (as a 1990 model year) with the 1UZ-FE 4.0L V8, four-speed automatic, and a level of fit, finish, and refinement that genuinely caught Mercedes and BMW off guard. High-mileage survivors are common, but most have lived a long life and need significant deferred maintenance.
Watch out: Owner reports of 1UZ-FE timing belt service being the critical interval to verify (the 1UZ is an interference engine on early 245-hp versions, though Lexus revised geometry across the run, so confirm). Worn shocks, leaking power-steering racks, aged climate-control LCDs, and cracked leather are universal at this age.
