Lexus ES XV40 (5th Generation, ES 350)

20072012 · XV40 · sedan

The XV40 ES used the 2GR-FE 3.5L V6 and a six-speed automatic on the XV40 Camry platform. Larger, smoother, and quieter than the XV30, with a more upscale interior. This generation cemented the ES as a comfort-focused sedan competing more with Buick Lucerne and Acura TL than with German sport sedans.

Watch out: Owner reports of 2GR-FE VVT-i oil supply line failures on early units (the rubberized line was later replaced under a Toyota campaign with an all-metal line), water pump leaks at high mileage, and worn front strut mounts. Dash and door-trim peeling on hot-climate cars is also documented.
