Lexus ES XV20 (3rd Generation, ES 300)

1997–2001 · XV20 · sedan

The XV20 ES 300 carried over the 1MZ-FE 3.0L V6 on the XV20 Camry platform, with quieter cabins, refined ride, and a more conservative shape. Cars built before 1998 used the original 1MZ-FE design without VVT-i; 1999 onward added VVT-i for more torque. The XV20 ES sold in very high US volume.

Watch out: Owner reports of 1MZ-FE engine oil sludge on cars that received extended-interval oil changes (this is the generation Toyota issued sludge-related extended warranties on). Timing belt service every 90k miles. Worn struts and clear-coat peel on roofs and hoods are common.
