Kia K5 DL3 (5th Generation, post-Optima rename)

Kia renamed the US Optima to K5 starting with the 2021 model year, aligning with the Korean-market name and the Stinger-inspired styling language. US lineup: 1.6L Gamma turbo (180 hp) standard, 2.5L Smartstream GDI (191 hp) on the LXS, and 2.5L Smartstream turbo (290 hp) on the GT (FWD only). First-ever AWD option on a Kia midsize sedan on LXS and EX trims. Built in West Point, Georgia.

Watch out: Smartstream is the post-Theta family of engines and has not been hit by the catastrophic recall pattern. The K5 GT's 290 hp routed through the front wheels has documented torque-steer complaints. The 2024 mid-cycle update softened some of the more aggressive styling cues.
