Infiniti QX50 2nd Gen

20192026 · J55 · suv

Second-generation QX50, a clean-sheet redesign with no powertrain or platform carryover from the J50. 2.0L KR20DDET VC-Turbo I4 using Infiniti's variable-compression-ratio technology (268hp / 280 lb-ft). Xtronic CVT. FWD or AWD, the RWD heritage is gone. Roomier interior than the outgoing model; conventional crossover proportions. Entered production November 2017 for the 2019 model year. The VC-Turbo here is the same family as the one Nissan put in the Altima.

Watch out: VC-Turbo engine is the structural risk. The variable-compression-ratio link mechanism adds moving parts that no conventional engine has, and long-term ownership data is still developing. Early reports include some warranty engine replacements. Xtronic CVT is the secondary concern. If the powertrain holds up, the rest of the car is conventionally built, if it doesn't, the repair bill is severe.

Full clubhouse — owner Garage Lineage, common problems, year-by-year notes, and product picks — is on the build list.
