Infiniti J30 Y32
1993–1997 · Y32 · sedan
Mid-size Infiniti sedan, sold in the US 1993-1997. Built on the Nissan Y32 chassis (shared with the Japan-market Leopard and Cedric/Gloria). 3.0L VG30DE DOHC V6 (around 210 hp) shared with the Z32 300ZX (non-turbo variant), paired exclusively to a 4-speed automatic. RWD. Distinctive curved, almost organic styling that polarized buyers at launch and aged into a cult following. Replaced by the I30 (FWD) and M45 in different ways.
Watch out: VG30DE timing belt service is the dominant scheduled cost; this is an interference engine and the published interval is around 105,000 miles. Owner reports of HVAC blend-door actuator failures, climate-control display pixel rot, and rear self-leveling suspension failures (where equipped) are common. The engine itself is mechanically robust. Parts availability for J30-specific trim and interior pieces is the bigger long-term concern given the low US sales volume. Pre-purchase: verify timing belt service history with receipts, scan for stored codes, and inspect the rear suspension ride height.
Full clubhouse — owner Garage Lineage, common problems, year-by-year notes, and product picks — is on the build list.
