Hyundai Ioniq AE (Hybrid / PHEV / EV liftback)

Hyundai's first dedicated electrified-only car, sold as a five-door liftback in hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and battery-electric variants on a shared platform. The hybrid used a 1.6L Kappa GDI mated to a 32 kW motor with a 6-speed DCT (a rarity in the hybrid segment). The EV variant ran a 28 kWh (later 38 kWh) battery with 124 miles of EPA range. Production wrapped 2022 to make room for the Ioniq sub-brand (Ioniq 5, 6).

Watch out: The 1.6L Kappa GDI in hybrid trims has not been part of the catastrophic Theta II recall pattern, but high-mileage hybrid traction batteries are now aging out of warranty. Confirm battery health before any used purchase, and budget for eventual battery service.
