Hyundai Genesis Coupe BK (1st and only generation)

20102016 · BK · coupe

Hyundai's first serious rear-drive sport coupe, sold in the US from February 2009 as a 2010 model. Two engines: the 2.0L Theta II turbo (210 hp at launch, 274 hp post-2013-facelift) and the 3.8L Lambda V6 (306 hp at launch, 348 hp post-facelift with direct injection). 6-speed manual standard, 6-speed automatic optional. Discontinued in 2016 when Genesis became a standalone luxury brand. Spiritual predecessor to the Kia Stinger.

Watch out: REAL ISSUE: 2010-2012 Theta II 2.0T cars sit at the early end of the Theta family rod-bearing recall pattern. The 3.8L Lambda V6 is generally tougher but the post-facelift direct-injection version has well-documented carbon buildup on intake valves (no port injection backup). Walnut blasting is the fix; budget for it on any high-mileage 3.8.

Full clubhouse — owner Garage Lineage, common problems, year-by-year notes, and product picks — is on the build list.
