Honda S2000 AP1

20002003 · AP1 · convertible

The AP1 S2000 launched 1999 (2000 model year in the US) as Honda's 50th-anniversary roadster. F20C 2.0L i-VTEC made 240hp at 8300 rpm with an 8800-rpm redline, rear-wheel drive, 6-speed manual, 50/50 weight distribution. Convertible only. Electric soft top standard, removable aluminum hardtop optional from 2001. Famously peaky high-rpm power delivery.

Watch out: Snap-oversteer on the original suspension calibration is the well-known driving-dynamic complaint and contributed to Honda's mid-cycle suspension revisions on the AP2. On the chassis side, soft-top rear-window separation and worn-out shock damping are the most-discussed long-term faults.
