Honda Insight 2nd Generation

2010–2014 · ZE2/ZE3 · hatchback

The 2nd-gen Insight launched in the US for 2010 as a five-passenger five-door hatchback positioned below the Civic Hybrid in price. 1.3L I4 paired with the IMA mild-hybrid system and a CVT. Sold strongly in Japan at launch but struggled in the US against the cheaper Civic and more efficient Prius. Discontinued after 2014.

Watch out: IMA battery degradation, especially on cars driven in hot climates, is the headline reliability concern. Honda's IMA software update on 2010-2011 cars throttled assist to extend pack life and was unpopular with owners who saw their fuel economy drop after the update.
