Honda HR-V 1st Generation (US)

The HR-V launched in the US for the 2016 model year on the Fit platform with the R18Z9 1.8L naturally aspirated I4 making 141hp, a CVT (manual offered on early FWD LX/EX cars and dropped after 2018), and Real Time AWD optional. Magic Seat carries over from the Fit. Built in Celaya, Mexico for the US market. Subcompact SUV pitched at first-time buyers and downsizers.

Watch out: Underpowered for highway merging at full passenger load is the most-cited complaint, not a defect but worth knowing. The R18Z9 itself is a durable Honda four with no significant generation-defining fault pattern; CVT service intervals are the maintenance item to track.
