Honda Civic 6th Generation
1996–2000 · EJ/EK/EM · coupe
Sixth-gen Civic ran model years 1996 through 2000 across coupe (EM), sedan (EJ/EK), and hatchback (EJ) bodies. US trims mostly used D-series engines (D16Y7, D16Y8, D15Z4 on the HX). The Si coupe returned for 1999-2000 with the 1.6L DOHC VTEC B16A2 rated at 160 hp. This was the last Civic to use front double-wishbone suspension before the switch to MacPherson struts in the 7th gen.
Watch out: Owner reports of rear lower control arm and trailing arm rust on cars that lived through Northeast/Midwest winters; the multi-link rear is double-wishbone-grade complicated to refresh. D-series distributors are a known wear item at higher miles.
Full clubhouse — owner Garage Lineage, common problems, year-by-year notes, and product picks — is on the build list.
