Ford Taurus 6th Generation

20102019 · D3 · sedan

Sixth and final Taurus on the Ford D3 platform (Volvo-derived, shared with Lincoln MKS, Five Hundred, Flex). Engines: 3.5L Duratec V6 (263hp, then 288hp post-facelift), 2.0L EcoBoost I4 (240hp, 2013+), 3.5L EcoBoost twin-turbo V6 (365hp, SHO). 6F50/6F55 6-speed automatic. FWD or AWD. Police Interceptor Sedan variant replaced the Crown Vic P71 in fleet duty 2013+. Discontinued 2019 in NA.

Watch out: Taurus SHO 3.5 EcoBoost (2010-2019) had a documented water-pump-driven-by-timing-chain failure mode — when the internal water pump leaks, coolant gets into the oil. $2,500-4,000 job because the entire front of the engine has to come apart. Ford extended the warranty for some builds. Non-SHO 3.5L V6 doesn't share this issue. PTU fluid on AWD trucks is the other recurring item — no factory service interval, fluid degrades by 80-100k.

Full clubhouse — owner Garage Lineage, common problems, year-by-year notes, and product picks — is on the build list.
