Ford Five Hundred Single Generation (2005-2007)
2005–2007 · D3 · sedan
Ford's full-size 5-passenger sedan, built on the D3 platform derived from Volvo's P2 architecture. Single engine: 3.0L Duratec 30 V6, 203 hp. Two transmission paths - FWD models got an Aisin 6-speed automatic; AWD models got the ZF Batavia CFT30 CVT. Tall 'Command View' seating position was the signature pitch. Sold under projection (Ford targeted 120,000 annual; achieved roughly 65% of that) and was renamed/restyled into the fifth-generation Taurus for 2008.
Watch out: The ZF Batavia CFT30 CVT on AWD models is the well-documented Achilles heel - owner reports of premature failure (often before 100k miles) and rebuild costs that exceed the car's value are common. FWD examples with the Aisin 6-speed automatic are the durable choice. 3.0L Duratec V6 is reliable but underpowered for the car's weight; owner reports of intake manifold runner control (IMRC) and PCV-related issues are noted. PTU on AWD examples carries the same fluid-neglect failure pattern as the Flex / Taurus.
Full clubhouse — owner Garage Lineage, common problems, year-by-year notes, and product picks — is on the build list.
