Chrysler PT Cruiser Only Generation

20012010 · wagon

The PT Cruiser (2001-2010) is a tall, retro-styled five-door wagon built on the same platform as the Dodge Neon. Front-wheel drive, available 2.4L four (naturally aspirated or turbocharged in the GT) and a 2.2L CRD diesel in some export markets. The EPA classified it as a truck, which kept Chrysler's CAFE numbers happier. A convertible variant joined the lineup for 2005. Loved by some, mocked by others; either way, more than a million were sold across its run. Production ended in 2010.

Watch out: Owner reports of the 2.4L engine consuming oil on higher-mileage examples, and head-gasket issues following any overheating event. The turbocharged 2.4L in the GT trim is harder on its motor mounts and front-end components. Convertible top weatherstripping is also a common dealer visit. Rust on the rocker panels and rear arches appears on Rust Belt cars.

Full clubhouse — owner Garage Lineage, common problems, year-by-year notes, and product picks — is on the build list.
