Chevrolet Volt Gen 1

20112015 · Voltec / Delta II · hatchback

First-generation Voltec extended-range EV. 16-17.1 kWh lithium-ion battery (T-shaped pack), 35-38 mile EV-only range, 1.4L LUU inline-four engine acts as generator (and occasionally as direct drive) for ~380 mile total range. Plug-in hybrid in everything but GM's marketing terminology.

Watch out: Battery capacity degradation is the main long-term concern — most Gen 1 packs retain 80%+ after 100k miles, but heat-soak in hot climates accelerates loss. ICE bearing failures from disuse (engine going months without running) are documented; GM's TSB recommends a periodic 'maintenance mode' run.
