Chevrolet Tahoe GMT400 (1st Generation Tahoe)

19951999 · GMT400 · suv

The Tahoe nameplate launched in 1995, replacing the shortened-Blazer naming. Initially offered as a two-door (1995-1999) and four-door (1995-1999) full-size SUV on the GMT400 platform, the same chassis as the contemporary C/K 1500. Engines included the 5.7L Vortec 5700 V8 (the volume engine) and the 6.5L Detroit turbo-diesel V8 option. 2WD and 4WD; 4L60E automatic. Replaced by the GMT800 Tahoe for 2000.

Watch out: Frame and rocker rust in salt-belt states is the dominant long-term issue. Owner reports of intake manifold gasket leaks on the 5.7L Vortec and 4L60E transmission wear at higher mileage are common.

Full clubhouse — owner Garage Lineage, common problems, year-by-year notes, and product picks — is on the build list.
