Chevrolet Sonic Single Generation

2012–2020 · Gamma II · hatchback

Single-generation subcompact (replaced the Aveo). 1.8L LUW Ecotec I4 (138 hp, 2012-2018) and 1.4L LUJ/LUV turbocharged Ecotec I4 (138-148 hp, full run). 5-speed manual or 6-speed automatic. Sedan and 5-door hatchback. RS package added sporting cues. Built at Orion Assembly, Michigan — the first US-built B-segment car. Discontinued October 2020.

Watch out: 1.4L turbo water pump and valve-cover / PCV failures (chronic GM small-displacement turbo issues), plus timing-chain stretch on the 1.8L. Both are sub-$1,000 fixes individually but accumulate.
