Chevrolet Silverado GMT800 (1st Generation)

19992007 · GMT800 · truck

The GMT800 launched for 1999 model year as the first truck wearing the Silverado nameplate, replacing the C/K. Available 4.3L V6, 4.8L LR4 V8, 5.3L LM7 V8 (the volume engine), and 6.0L LQ4 V8, all Gen III small-block (LS-family) iron-block Vortec. No Active Fuel Management on this generation; that came with GMT900. Classic body ran through 2006 for 1500s, with the 'Classic' badge sold alongside the new GMT900 into 2007. HD variants continued into 2007.

Watch out: Rust on cab corners, rocker panels, and rear wheel wells in salt-belt states is the defining issue. Owner reports of 4L60E transmission wear at 150k+ miles and intake manifold gasket leaks on early 5.3L LM7 are common.

Full clubhouse — owner Garage Lineage, common problems, year-by-year notes, and product picks — is on the build list.
