Eighth-generation Malibu on GM's Epsilon II platform. 2.5L LKW Ecotec I4 (196-197 hp) standard, 2.4L LUK Ecotec I4 + eAssist mild-hybrid (182 hp combined) early, 2.0L LTG turbocharged I4 (259 hp) top trim. 6-speed automatic. Short generation — only three model years before the redesign.

Watch out: eAssist 12V/115V mild-hybrid battery degradation is the expensive failure mode (~$2,000 to replace). 2.5L LKW excessive oil consumption is reported but less severe than the 2.4L Theta II family.
