Chevrolet Equinox 1st Generation (Theta)

20052009 · Theta · suv

The Equinox launched for 2005 as Chevrolet's compact crossover SUV, built in Ingersoll, Ontario alongside the Pontiac Torrent. The Theta platform also underpinned the Saturn Vue. Powertrain was the 3.4L LNJ V6 (185 hp) through 2009. A Sport variant (2008-2009) added the 3.6L LY7 DOHC V6. Front-wheel drive standard, all-wheel drive optional. Five-speed automatic. Replaced by the 2nd-gen Equinox for 2010, which moved to the newer Theta Premium platform with a four-cylinder base.

Watch out: Owner reports of timing-chain wear and tensioner issues on the 3.6L LY7 V6 (Sport variant) are well-documented. The 3.4L pushrod V6 is generally reliable but has reported intake manifold gasket leaks and lower-mileage longevity than later four-cylinder Equinoxes.

Full clubhouse — owner Garage Lineage, common problems, year-by-year notes, and product picks — is on the build list.
