Chevrolet Corvette C4 (4th Generation)
1984–1996 · C4 · coupe
The C4 launched as a 1984 model (no 1983 production). 5.7L L83 Cross-Fire Injection in 1984; the L98 Tuned-Port Injection 350 took over for 1985-1991. The LT1 Gen II small-block arrived in 1992 (300 hp) and the LT4 came for 1996 in manual-transmission Grand Sport and Collector Edition cars. The ZR-1 (1990-1995) used the Lotus-developed LT5 DOHC 32-valve V8, the only DOHC Corvette engine ever. Convertible returned for 1986. Targa-top coupe was standard.
Watch out: Opti-Spark distributor failures on 1992-1996 LT1/LT4 cars are well-documented; the unit sits low at the front of the engine and water intrusion kills it. Owner reports of fuel-pressure regulator failures, leaking power steering, and weatherstrip degradation are common on cars this age.
Full clubhouse — owner Garage Lineage, common problems, year-by-year notes, and product picks — is on the build list.
