Chevrolet Caprice 4th Generation (B-body)
1991–1996 · B-body · sedan
The fourth-generation Caprice launched 1991 on the long-running GM B-body platform, the last rear-wheel-drive full-size Chevrolet sedan and wagon for nearly two decades (the Aussie-built 2011-2017 Caprice police car is a separate vehicle). Engines included the 4.3L V6 (briefly), 5.0L L03 TBI V8 (early), 5.7L L05 TBI V8, and from 1994 the 5.7L LT1 Gen II small-block (same engine family as the Corvette and Camaro, detuned). The Impala SS (1994-1996) used the LT1. B-body production ended December 1996 when GM closed the Arlington plant for SUV conversion.
Watch out: Owner reports of Opti-Spark distributor failures on 1994-1996 LT1 cars (the distributor sits low and is killed by water intrusion) are well-documented, along with 4L60E transmission wear and rust on rear quarters of wagons.
Full clubhouse — owner Garage Lineage, common problems, year-by-year notes, and product picks — is on the build list.
