Chevrolet Camaro 3rd Generation (F-body)

19821992 · F-body · coupe

The downsized F-body replaced the long-running second-gen in 1982. Engines spanned the 2.5L Iron Duke four (early base), 2.8L V6, 3.1L V6 (late), 305 small-block V8 (LG4 carb, LB9 TPI, L03), and 350 small-block (B2L TPI, available in IROC-Z and Z28 from 1987). IROC-Z trim ran 1985-1990. Hatchback coupe; convertible offered from 1987. T-tops were near-universal on higher trims.

Watch out: T-top water leaks and rust around the rear hatch and floor pans are the most common owner complaints. Owner reports of 700R4/4L60 transmission rebuilds being common at higher mileage and TPI harness brittleness on 35+ year-old wiring.

Full clubhouse — owner Garage Lineage, common problems, year-by-year notes, and product picks — is on the build list.
