BMW X3 E83 (1st Generation)

First-generation X3, contracted out to Magna Steyr in Graz, Austria. M54 inline-six early; N52 after the 2007 LCI. Press-launch reviews were brutal (ride harshness, plasticky interior). Owners discovered a properly capable AWD compact SUV underneath. Manual transmission was actually available — rare and sought-after now.

Watch out: Transfer case actuator motor failure (the click-and-no-power-flow symptom) — a defining E83 issue. Front control arm bushings wear early. Sunroof drain channels clog and water finds the rear footwells.
