BMW X1 E84 (1st Generation)

The E84 X1 is the first-generation BMW X1 sold in the US, on sale from 2012 through 2015. It is based on the E90 3 Series platform and is rear-wheel-drive in layout (with xDrive all-wheel-drive optional). US powertrains were the N20 turbocharged four and the N52 naturally aspirated six.

Watch out: N20 timing chain guide wear on earlier (pre-update) units is the headline issue. Owner reports of electric water pump failure (also shared with N52 cars) and oil filter housing gasket leaks are routine.
