BMW M3 F80 (5th Generation)

2014–2018 · F80 · sedan

First turbocharged M3. S55 3.0L twin-turbo inline-six replaced the S65 V8. 425 hp stock; easily tuned to 500+ wheel. Sedan-only (the F82 coupe and F83 convertible became M4). Carbon fiber driveshaft, electronic LSD, carbon roof standard. The S55 is broadly reliable but the early cars have valve stem seal issues.

Watch out: Valve stem seal failure on 2015-2016 cars throws a blue-smoke cloud on cold start. BMW extended warranty covered many; out-of-warranty fix is a heads-off job.
