Aston Martin DB9 1st Generation

20052016 · AM802 · coupe

The DB9 was the first car on Aston Martin's bonded-aluminium VH platform and ran for more than a decade with steady evolution rather than a true second generation. It is a front-mid-engine, rear-drive grand tourer powered by a naturally aspirated 5.9L V12, offered as a coupe and a Volante convertible, with a Touchtronic automatic (and an early manual). Output climbed over the years from roughly 450hp to about 540hp in the final DB9 GT. It replaced the DB7 and was itself replaced by the DB11. High build volumes for an Aston make it one of the more attainable modern V12 GTs on the US used market today.

Watch out: These are now older exotic GTs, so the watch items are age and deferred-maintenance driven: a major service interval that includes spark plugs and coil packs deep in the V12, costly clutch and (on manual cars) flywheel wear, and electronics and Volante soft-top mechanisms that get expensive when they fail. Buy on service history, not mileage. Parts and specialist labor carry exotic pricing even though the cars themselves can look like a bargain.
