Acura MDX 3rd Generation
2014–2020 · YD3 · suv
The 3rd-gen MDX launched 2014 lighter and more aerodynamic than the outgoing car. J35Y5 3.5L V6 with VCM, initially 6-speed automatic and later the ZF 9HP 9-speed automatic across the lineup. FWD became standard on base trims; SH-AWD optional. MDX Sport Hybrid (2017-2020) added a three-motor i-MMD-style hybrid powertrain with 321hp combined. 2017 refresh updated the front end and added the Sport Hybrid.
Watch out: ZF 9HP 9-speed automatic drew the same harsh-shift and recall pattern as on contemporary Honda Pilots; software updates over the run resolved most. VCM oil consumption and torque-converter shudder on non-hybrid V6 cars continues from the prior generation.
