Acura MDX 1st Generation

20012006 · YD1 · suv

The MDX launched October 2000 as a 2001 model on a dedicated global light truck platform shared with the Honda Pilot. J35A3 3.5L V6 (later J35A5) making 240-265hp paired with a 5-speed automatic. VTM-4 on-demand AWD. Seven-passenger three-row seating standard. Acura's first big sales hit and a North American Truck of the Year for 2001.

Watch out: Transmission failure on 2001-2002 cars is the well-known fault and Honda issued an extended warranty for affected VINs. 5-speed automatic in general benefits from short ATF service intervals on these heavy V6 SUVs. Frame rust on northern-state cars at this age is a structural inspection item.
