TL;DR A solid generic OBD-II code reader that reads and clears engine codes, streams live sensor data, and checks I/M readiness · but this is strictly a read-only tool. No ABS, SRS, or any bidirectional capability. If you need anything beyond powertrain codes, this is not the right scanner.
The NT301 is a wired, read-only code reader covering all 1996+ US gasoline vehicles and most 2000+ EU/Asian OBD-II vehicles across all five standard protocols. Plug it into the 16-pin OBD-II port under the dash and it reads or clears generic powertrain codes, streams live sensor data in graph form, captures freeze frame data, and checks I/M readiness via a one-button hotkey and Red/Yellow/Green LED indicator. The 2.8-inch color screen handles DTC lookups without internet access. Foxwell has maintained this ASIN since roughly 2015 · free lifetime updates via USB to Windows. Highly rated on Amazon by a very large owner base, the consistent complaint pattern is scope confusion, not failure: buyers who expected ABS or SRS access. The manufacturer proactively disclaims every special function in the listing. Within its defined scope · generic powertrain code reading and live sensor data · it performs reliably.
The right buyer is a daily-driver owner who wants to know why the check-engine light came on and whether the car will pass an emissions test, without paying a shop diagnostic fee. Skip it if you need ABS or SRS codes, any reset function, or plan to work on late-model European vehicles that often require enhanced access · a mid-tier scanner in the $150·$200 range covers that ground and will serve a regular DIY mechanic far better over time.
There is no SDS for an OBD-II scanner. No UL Listed or ETL Certified documentation appears in the product listing, manufacturer specifications, or certification databases; for a wired device with no RF component, FCC ID is not required, but independent US electrical safety verification (UL/ETL) is absent. No CPSC recall is active, no Proposition 65 warning, and no documented ECU communication errors or vehicle faults attributed to the device in community reports. Standard e-waste drop-off applies at end of life.
