TL;DR No CRI disclosed and community defect-reveal evidence is absent on dark or metallic paint — adequate for casual pre-wash checks, not for serious paint-correction inspection. CE-certified; no independent US safety listing on file.
What it is and how it performs
The EQP401 is a rechargeable dual-LED light: a COB strip (150 lm) and focused spot (130 lm) per device label — Amazon's 1,000 lm spec is unsupported. No CRI is disclosed. Community confirms basic swirl visibility, but no dark or metallic paint testing is on file; one reviewer notes "a heavier gun is needed." Two LED elements have slightly different color temperatures (no Kelvin data; not adjustable). This is a general rechargeable LED tool, not a high-CRI inspection light.
Who should buy this — and who should skip it
Casual owners doing quick spot checks on light-colored paint will find it adequate. Skip it for paint correction on dark or metallic panels — no CRI claim and marginal brightness make a purpose-built high-CRI detailing light the correct choice.
Safety and environmental impact
CE mark on device label; no UL or ETL listing found. No UV LEDs. Integrated Li-ion; charge via micro-USB; dispose at an e-waste facility.
Frequently asked questions
Does the Chemical Guys EQP401 have a UV mode?▾
No. The EQP401 uses standard white LEDs only — no UV-A or UV-B output. It cannot be used to inspect ceramic coatings or paint sealants for UV fluorescence.
What is the CRI of the EQP401?▾
Chemical Guys does not disclose a CRI value for this light anywhere — not on the device label, Amazon listing, or manufacturer product page. No independent measurement is on file. The absence of a CRI claim is itself a signal: purpose-built detailing inspection lights that meet the 90+ CRI threshold typically advertise it prominently.
The Amazon listing says 1,000 lumens — is that accurate?▾
No. The physical device label clearly reads '150|130 LUMENS' (COB strip 150 lm, focused spot 130 lm = 280 lm total). The 1,000-lumen figure in the Amazon specifications field likely applies to the larger XL variant (B07RJ6SGCX) or is a listing error. Use the label figure.

Great Light!
This is a great light, helped with identifying swirls during paint correction. Battery life seems short, but I was using it on max brightness. I’d say it lasted maybe 1-1.5 hours before it started to show signs of dimming. - it even then, it was still bright enough to work, just not as bright as it started.
