CarCareTruth's Analysis
Last reviewed May 26, 2026
TL;DR Stated 4 AWG CCA (copper-clad aluminum) cable — conductor material explicitly disclosed, not misrepresented. No independent gauge measurement exists, and the listed weight (5.47 lbs for 20 ft) runs lighter than theoretical 4 AWG CCA, a pattern common in value-tier cables where conductor is sized below the stated AWG. UL-Listed. Manufacturer rates flexibility to -13°F with no independent community confirmation at that temperature. Copper-toothed steel-jaw clamps fit both top-post and side-terminal batteries. Right pick for a passenger car or SUV owner who wants an affordable, infrequently used emergency cable at a low price point; not the pick for regular cold-climate use or heavy-duty cranking.
What it is and how it performs
The CARTMAN BC0420K claims 4 AWG at 20 ft with CCA conductor — explicitly disclosed in the product listing, which separates it from cables that say "copper" without qualification. No Project Farm or teardown gauge measurement has been published for this SKU. The cable weighs 5.47 lbs for 20 ft; theoretical CCA at true 4 AWG is approximately 8.9 lbs for that length, suggesting the actual conductor cross-section may be smaller than stated. Clamp jaws are copper-toothed steel with a patented double-contact tongue for dual grip; both side-terminal and top-post batteries are accommodated. Insulation is cold-rated to -13°F per manufacturer claim. A drawstring carry bag is included. The cable is passive — no inline reverse-polarity electronics.
Who should buy this — and who should skip it
Right pick for a passenger-car or compact-SUV owner who needs an emergency trunk cable and uses it infrequently. The 20 ft length reaches most side-by-side or nose-to-nose scenarios in standard parking lots, the UL Listing provides independent safety verification, and the 4.8-star rating across more than 16,000 Amazon verified-purchase reviews indicates broadly acceptable real-world cranking performance for the vehicle class it targets. Skip if the intended use is a cold-winter climate where flexibility below -13°F matters — the manufacturer cold rating is unconfirmed by community reports at named sub-zero temperatures. Also skip if the vehicle is a heavy-duty diesel, full-size pickup with a large V8, or RV — a verified pure-copper 2 AWG cable at 25 ft or longer is the appropriate tool for sustained 400-amp cranking loads.
Safety and environmental impact
Passive electrical conductor with rubber-jacketed insulation — no chemical exposure pathway in normal use. Passive cable with no reverse-polarity indicator or inline protection electronics. CCA conductor recycles poorly — the copper coating and aluminum core are difficult to separate at most scrap facilities, making disposal less clean than solid copper; insulation is not routinely recycled. The 5–8 year community-expected lifespan for CCA/PVC-class cables reflects real-world degradation from trunk temperature cycling and insulation hardening at bend points over time.
Frequently asked questions
Are CARTMAN jumper cables pure copper or CCA?▾
CARTMAN explicitly discloses CCA (copper-clad aluminum) construction in the product listing. CCA has higher electrical resistance than solid copper at the same stated gauge, which affects sustained current delivery on larger engines. The UL Listing verifies the cable meets electrical-safety standards, but does not independently confirm the stated AWG.
Will these cables work in cold weather?▾
The manufacturer rates the insulation to -13°F (-25°C), which covers most cold-weather climates. No independent community evidence with named sub-zero temperatures was found at the time of this review — the -13°F rating is a manufacturer claim.
Are CARTMAN jumper cables UL-Listed?▾
Yes — UL Listing appears in the product name and is independently verified. UL Listing confirms the product meets electrical safety standards for its rated application; it does not independently verify the stated AWG gauge.
What vehicles are CARTMAN 4 gauge 20 ft cables rated for?▾
The brand targets passenger cars, SUVs, cargo vans, and mid-size pickup trucks. The 20 ft length is well-suited for side-by-side and nose-to-nose jump scenarios in standard parking lots. For heavy-duty diesels or commercial trucks, a heavier-gauge cable (2 AWG or larger) is a better match for sustained high-amperage cranking.
Do CARTMAN jumper cables come with a storage bag?▾
Yes — a drawstring carry bag is included. The bag is functional for storage and trunk-toss use, though it is a basic drawstring design rather than a zippered nylon case.

These Cables are the Real Deal
For the price, these cables are an exceptional value. Heavy 4 Gauge design and 20 feet of cable is an amazing quality/value to find for around 25 bucks. The clamps are super sturdy and easy to attach and provide a firm connection. The storage bag is a real bonus for keeping your trunk or storage area organized. The 20 ft of cable gives that extra reach you may need in those especially awkward or distanced parking spots/situations. These cables are very functional and should be a part of anyone's emergency gear stowed in the vehicle.
