TL;DR A complete 30-plug steel T-handle kit with confirmed durability across diverse tire types including tractor and truck tires — plug seals documented holding 1–2 years in long-term follow-up reviews. Lubricant canister, valve core tool, spare valve cores, and a rigid orange hard case all included out of the box. The Jun 2020 truck review separately confirms durable kit use on large truck tires at road speed; community praises T-handle construction with no bending or flex complaints across nearly 7,000 reviews.
What it is and how it performs
Boulder Tools built this kit around a steel spiral probe (reamer) and steel T-handle insertion needle — both confirmed in the product flat-lay image. The 30 rubber plug strips, lubricant canister, valve core removal tool, 4 spare valve cores, 8 valve caps, 4 valve extenders, 2 Allen keys, utility knife, pliers, and pen-style pressure gauge round out a contents list that covers a complete roadside repair without a separate purchase. Community evidence across 6,943 Amazon reviews (4.7★) shows plug seals holding 1–2 years across multiple repairs on tractor tires (Sep 2024 verified review) and durable tool performance on truck tires (Jun 2020 verified review). No T-handle bending or insertion needle deformation reports appear in the available review sample.
Who should buy this — and who should skip it
The right pick for a driver who wants a complete ready-to-use plug kit for passenger or light-truck tires, with no separate cement purchase needed and enough components to cover valve core failures as well as punctures. The rigid orange case makes this a better long-term trunk kit than canvas-pouch competitors at similar price points. Skip this if you need a mushroom-plug (demount) repair for a large puncture or a shoulder puncture — string plugs are for tread-area use only, and a sidewall or shoulder puncture requires tire replacement regardless of kit type.
Safety and environmental impact
No chemical exposure pathway from the steel reamer, T-handle, insertion needle, valve core tool, or any of the other physical tools in the kit. The included lubricant canister (labeled Lubricating Oil) has no published SDS; handle per standard lubricant precautions and dispose per local regulations for lubricating oils. String-type plug repairs are for tread-area punctures only per USTMA and NHTSA guidance — sidewall and shoulder punctures require tire replacement.
Frequently asked questions
What's in the kit?▾
The contents diagram (confirmed from product imagery) shows: spiral probe (reamer), T-handle insert tool, 30 rubber repair plugs, Boulder Tools lubricant canister, valve core removal tool, 4 spare valve cores, 4 chrome valve caps, 4 plastic valve caps, 4 valve extenders, 2 Allen keys, utility knife, needle-nose pliers, and a pen-style tire pressure gauge — all stored in a rigid orange 12×8 in hard case.
Will the plug hold at highway speed?▾
Community follow-up reviews confirm plug seals holding at highway speed for truck tires (Jun 2020 review, confirmed durable over couple of years of truck use). Plug seals also confirmed holding 1–2 years on tractor tires across multiple repairs (Sep 2024 review). Note that agricultural tractor tires run at 6–25 PSI — well below passenger-car range — so the tractor evidence confirms durability across tire types, not high-PSI capability. Truck tires at 50+ PSI are the relevant elevated-PSI evidence.
Is the included lubricant a vulcanizing cement?▾
The product images show a round tin labeled 'Lubricating Oil / BOULDER TOOLS.' The listing describes it as 'lubricant.' Whether this is a traditional solvent-based vulcanizing cement or a simpler rubber lubricant has not been confirmed by a published SDS. Handle it as you would any lubricating oil — standard precautions, local disposal regulations — until chemistry is confirmed.
Can I repair a sidewall puncture with this kit?▾
String-type plug repairs are for tread-area punctures only per USTMA and NHTSA guidance. A sidewall or shoulder puncture requires tire replacement — no roadside plug kit changes that. Boulder Tools does not explicitly restrict the kit to tread-area use in product copy, but the industry restriction applies regardless.
Are plug strip refills available?▾
No separate Boulder Tools refill pack has been found in Amazon search results. The 30 included strips are sufficient for multiple repairs on a typical personal vehicle, but replacing used strips requires purchasing a new kit or sourcing compatible third-party plug strips of the same diameter.

Works well in the real world! TOUGH tool!
From experience I learned that just because a tool or knife or gear looks all heavy duty and like it will survive anything means nothing until you are in a real world situation where you are depending on it! I've had gear that looks awesome tough and then the single time I REALLY need it it fails, especially no-name CHINA crap. You survival, camping and prepper guys know what I'm talking about!I bought this kit because my tires are too large on my truck to fit a spare. I thought at least this will be better than nothing. I had it on my truck for a couple years when one day the mail lady comes rolling up to my place with a rubber to the rim flat tire. Her cheap old tires got a good size hole on my rural road. I thought perfect chance to check out this kit! I went to use the reamer but the hole was already larger than the tools diameter! I inserted a plug and added some air, she still had a slow leak but was able to finish her route and get home safely! It worked great!A few months later I noticed a slow leak on my truck tire. If my truck sat a week my rear tire would be flat. I would pump it up when I needed the truck but that was a hassle. One day after doing so I came home, it was raining and when I got out of the truck I heard a hissing noise. Great! Air was bubbling out of the leak. Nice find! I marked it and a couple days later I set out to make the repair! I tried to insert the reamer and there was no way it would penetrate my awesome 10PLY 35x12 Toyo R/T tires!!!! I used all my strength but it would not go in! There was a piece of 2x4 nearby about 2' long. I started beating the handle of the reamer with it but it was difficult to hold it steady with one hand and beat on it with the other. Still would not go in. Finally I went inside and got a large heavy duty rubber mallet. With my forearms flexing and holding it with all my strength I was able to beat the reamer into the tire and work up a sweat at the same time. When I was finished it was a nice flush solid plug. The plug came out perfect, looked like a professional job. No problems since.Well there you have my long story. The tool is the real deal, I was sure the shaft of the reamer would snap or the handle crack off like other cheap but tough looking tools but this one IS TOUGH! So refreshing to have this experience. Too many times I buy things and they fail early on. The kit is great that it has the lube, the pliers, the valve stem wrench, etc. One last thing to mention, it also took some force to push the string in, the string is also high quality! If it was cheap it would have broken before inserting into the tire! You might want to keep a good rubber mallet in your vehicle.
