TL;DR Fine-grade 200 g synthetic clay bar (2 × 100 g in jar) · community-confirmed near-zero marring on clear coat and coated paint with adequate lubrication; covers 4·6 typical vehicles. No Prop 65 warning.
A pair of soft fine-grade synthetic polybutene clay bars in a reusable jar. Fine grade is the least aggressive consumer clay grade · designed for paint that is already maintained, ceramic-coated, or recently corrected, where marring tolerance is low. Knead until pliable, mist the surface generously with Adam's Detail Spray (sold separately), and glide the bar flat across the paint; fold to a clean face when surface drag returns. Community evidence confirms effective removal of light brake dust, water spots, mild fallout, and road film on maintained vehicles, with near-zero marring reports on dark and coated paint when adequately lubricated. Adam's specifies 2·3 cars per bar; two bars cover 4·6 vehicles before kneading can no longer expose a clean face.
Strongest fit for ceramic-coated vehicles, recently corrected paint, and maintained daily drivers where a post-clay polish step is not planned. Buyers who want a complete first-time-clay kit should choose Adam's Clay Bar + Detail Spray bundle instead of the standalone refill jar. Skip this grade for vehicles with heavy industrial fallout, rail dust, or overspray · Adam's Medium Grade Clay Bar is the appropriate choice for that contamination level.
Clay bars are physical synthetic polymer tools with no chemical exposure pathway in normal use. No signal word, no Prop 65 warning, no PPE is called for by the chemistry. Spent bars go to landfill regardless of brand · embedded brake dust and road film make them non-recyclable; the reusable jar itself is curbside recyclable plastic.
Fine grade is the softest, least aggressive consumer clay grade · designed for paint that is already maintained, recently corrected, or ceramic-coated. It removes light brake dust, mild fallout, water spots, and sap without the marring risk that heavier grades carry on a clear coat. Use it for routine seasonal decontamination; choose a medium or heavy grade if your vehicle has heavy industrial fallout or rail dust.
The fine grade is one of the more coating-friendly consumer clay options · it's softer than mid-grade clays and less likely to compromise a coating with proper Detail Spray lubrication. That said, any clay use slightly affects coating sacrificial layers; if the coating is fresh and you don't need decontamination, skip claying entirely. For long-coated vehicles with light contamination, fine grade is a reasonable choice.
Adam's sells the Fine Grade Clay Bar as a refill product (in jar) and separately offers the Clay Bar + Detail Spray kit. Their Detail Spray is specifically formulated to work with the fine-grade clay · using a thicker mid-grade lubricant defeats the purpose of choosing a fine grade. If you already own Adam's Detail Spray, the standalone bars are the better value.
The reusable jar protects the bars from drying out · Adam's bars typically remain pliable for at least a year between uses with the jar sealed. If a bar dries out (becomes hard or crumbles when kneaded), it should be discarded; rehydration with detail spray is generally not effective once a bar has hardened.
