CarCareTruth's Analysis
Last reviewed May 26, 2026
TL;DR A 12-piece all-steel (grade unspecified per manufacturer listing) wind-back and push-in combo kit covering single-pin screw-in rear pistons and push-in front pistons — confirmed across Ford, Mazda, Chevy, Mini Cooper, and Saturn applications in community reviews. Dual-pin European caliper adapters are present in the set but not independently confirmed in the available review sample.
What it is and how it performs
The ABN 12-piece kit uses a T-handle threaded-shaft drive mechanism with 10 steel adapters covering push-in piston compression and single-pin screw-in wind-back for integrated parking-brake rear calipers. Construction is described as all-steel in the manufacturer listing — steel grade is not specified. The adapter set addresses the piston types that cover the majority of domestic and Japanese rear brake jobs: Toyota, Honda, Ford, Mazda, GM, Saturn, and Mini Cooper applications are community-confirmed in 584 reviews (4.6 stars). Dual-pin European rear calipers (BMW, Mercedes, Audi) are manufacturer-listed but not independently confirmed in the available review sample. The kit does not cover hollow pistons, explicitly noted in the product listing. Adapters can pop out during freehand operation and require firm caliper pressure to stay seated during the final millimeters of wind-back.
Who should buy this — and who should skip it
Right pick for a home mechanic doing front and rear brake pad service on a domestic or Japanese vehicle fleet — Toyota, Honda, Ford, Mazda, GM, and Mini Cooper rear calipers are community-confirmed compatible, and the 12-piece set handles both push-in front and single-pin screw-in rear without additional purchases. Skip this if your vehicles have hollow pistons (explicitly excluded), or if your fleet includes European rear dual-pin calipers on BMW, Mercedes, or Audi; dual-pin adapter coverage in this kit is not independently confirmed for those applications.
Safety and environmental impact
All-steel construction (grade unspecified per manufacturer listing) — no chemical exposure pathway from the tool itself; no SDS applies to this product. The all-steel body and adapters are accepted at scrap metal recycling at end of life; the orange blow-molded plastic case is not municipally recyclable — separating the steel components from the case before disposal recovers the recyclable fraction. Brake service work generates dust from pad and rotor friction material — respiratory protection appropriate to the vehicle's brake pad type and era is relevant to the work environment.

You're Going To Need These
If you are working on modern brakes. The kit got my jobe done with ease. There are several, manufacturer brake types covered, with all of the extra brake style, tool ad ons included. The tools were of unexpected quality at this price range. For a few bucks more I opted to go with this kit over the ratchet driven, square brake tool thingy, which is the only other option I am aware of for this job. Plus, if your shop is anything like mine, this neat and tidy kit will be a lot easier to find when you need it, considering the fact I know, I'd be searching through tool drawers for an hour to find that square thingy ;)The quality of the kit makes it a no brainer decision over the square tool. Also the car we are working on today, may well, not be the car we are working on tomorrow. I like the idea of having the tools I will need for future jobs.Using the tool can be a bit irritating, everything has to be just so, and it may pop out of the slots a few times, but stick with it, it will get the job done. Granted I wasn't using it with pressure most of the time. I was freehanding it (just because I could,) but at some point it's wise to use it the way it's supposed to be used, with appropriate pressure pushing on the caliper piston as you turn. It's a bit slower like that, but it doesn't pop out of the slots as much :) Also that last few mm of inward travel, will require the piston pressure, if you want it fully depressed. (and you do if you want the install to go smoothly.)Get this kit. It is a great addition to the do it yourselfer tool kit. You can thank me later :)
