Community Guidelines

Last updated: May 2026

CarCareTruth is built on the idea that honest information — about products, ingredients, and real-world experience — makes the hobby better for everyone. These guidelines protect that premise. Every member is expected to read and follow them.

1. Be truthful

Product reviews must reflect your genuine, first-hand experience. Do not post fake, fabricated, or incentivised reviews without full disclosure. If you have a relationship with a brand — ambassador, employee, contractor, or you received the product as a gift or at a discount — say so clearly at the top of your review. Undisclosed sponsored content will be removed and the account suspended.

2. Be respectful

Debate products, techniques, and data — not people. Personal attacks, harassment, targeted abuse, and hate speech directed at any individual or group will result in immediate content removal. Repeat offenders will be permanently banned. Disagreement is welcome; cruelty is not.

3. No spam or unsolicited promotion

Do not post promotional content, referral links, MLM pitches, cross-site self-promotion, or repetitive brand plugs. Affiliate links embedded in user-generated content are not permitted — the affiliate layer is handled at the platform level so editorial scores stay independent. Accounts that exist solely to advertise products or services will be removed.

4. Keep it work-safe

CarCareTruth is a car-care community accessible to a wide audience. NSFW images, graphic violence, and sexually explicit content are prohibited in all community spaces including reviews, group posts, profile posts, and profile photos.

5. No doxxing or personal information

Do not share anyone's real name, home or work address, phone number, email address, employer, or any other identifying information without their explicit, on-record consent. This includes posting screenshots that expose private messages or private account details. Violations will be treated as a severe breach and actioned immediately.

6. No misinformation on product safety

Do not share demonstrably false product safety claims. The safety sheet data and GHS classifications published on CarCareTruth are sourced from manufacturer Safety Data Sheets and primary regulatory databases. Those are the reference point. If you believe a published safety rating is wrong, challenge it in the relevant group with a cited source. Making up or repeating debunked hazard claims (in either direction) is not permitted.

7. CSAM zero tolerance

Any content that sexually exploits, depicts, or solicits minors will be reported immediately to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) and to law enforcement. The account will be permanently banned and all associated data preserved for investigation. There are no exceptions, no appeals.

8. Affiliate and sponsorship disclosure

CarCareTruth earns a commission when you click product links on the site. This revenue structure never influences editorial scores or rankings — a product cannot pay its way to a better number. Sponsored posts and brand placements are clearly labelled "Sponsored." If you represent a brand and want to discuss a commercial relationship, use our contact form.

9. Reporting to law enforcement

Where appropriate, CarCareTruth reports user activity to law enforcement and relevant authorities. This includes — but is not limited to — credible threats of violence, content that sexually exploits or endangers minors (reported to NCMEC and law enforcement per Section 7), coordinated harassment that targets a specific person's safety, the sale or trafficking of controlled substances or stolen goods, and any other conduct we reasonably believe to be a serious crime in progress or already committed.

When we make a referral, we preserve the relevant content, metadata, and account history for investigators and may comply with valid legal process (subpoenas, warrants, preservation requests) without notifying the targeted user when the law forbids notice. Members who use the platform to commit crimes should expect their account to be banned and the matter handed off.

Enforcement

  • Report any post, comment, or profile using the Report button on the item itself. For account-level concerns (impersonation, ban evasion, coordinated harassment) email support@sierranovalabs.com.
  • Reported content enters a moderation queue for human review. We review as quickly as we can; severe reports (CSAM, doxxing, NCII, credible threats) are prioritized.
  • Depending on severity, enforcement ranges from content removal and a warning to temporary muting or suspension to permanent ban. Severe violations (doxxing, CSAM, NCII, coordinated harassment, credible threats) result in immediate permanent bans.
  • Copyright (DMCA). Repeated copyright infringement results in account termination, consistent with our Terms §16.4.
  • Non-consensual intimate imagery (NCII). Email support@sierranovalabs.com with subject line NCII Removal Request. See Terms §15.1.
  • To appeal a moderation decision, file an appeal at /appeals (you don't need to be signed in — banned accounts can file too). Appeals must be filed within 30 days of the action. We aim to respond, but cannot guarantee a timeline.

Accounts operated by CarCareTruth

Some accounts on CarCareTruth may be operated by SierraNova Labs using automated tooling rather than by a single individual. These accounts are subject to the same rules as human members. They do not vote in product rankings, are not used to author editorial scores, and are not used to manufacture endorsements of paid products.

These guidelines are owned and enforced by SierraNova Labs LLC, operator of CarCareTruth. They may be updated at any time; continued use of the community constitutes acceptance of the current version.
