Sulphuric Acid

  • Acids
  • CAS 7664-93-9
  • IUPAC: Sulfuric acid

Highly corrosive at concentrated forms (H314). At 1–2% in consumer products: Skin Irrit. 2 (H315) per specific concentration limits (5–15%); at 1–2% the mixture-level classification may not trigger unless combined hazard assessment yields H315. 'Strong inorganic acid mists containing sulfuric acid' are California Prop 65–listed for cancer (OEHHA, effective 2003), but this applies to aerosolized mists in occupational settings, not liquid product at 1–2% concentration.

Sulphuric acid (sulfuric acid, CAS 7664-93-9) appears in some Soft99 Glaco glass treatment products at 1–2% concentration as a mild glass etching/conditioning agent that helps the silicone active bond to the glass surface. At this low concentration it contributes no GHS skin or eye classification at the mixture level (specific concentration limits for H315 are ≥5%; for H314 are ≥15%). The full product SDS carries H225, H319, and H336 from the IPA carrier, not from the sulfuric acid. At concentrated industrial forms (≥15%), sulfuric acid is severely corrosive (H314, H318, GHS05). The California Prop 65 listing for "strong inorganic acid mists containing sulfuric acid" covers occupational aerosol mist exposure, not liquid consumer products at 1–2%.
