Distillates, Petroleum, Solvent-Refined Heavy Paraffinic
- Base oils
- CAS 64741-88-4
Distillates, Petroleum, Solvent-Refined Heavy Paraffinic (CAS 64741-88-4) appears in 1 of the 1,812 car-care products CarCareTruth tracks (as of June 2026).
Not classified as hazardous under GHS at typical product use concentrations. No H304 aspiration hazard at mixture level — high molecular weight paraffinic fraction above viscosity threshold. Low oral and dermal toxicity. Not a skin sensitizer or respiratory sensitizer.
Solvent-refined heavy paraffinic petroleum distillates are a conventional mineral-oil base stock fraction produced by solvent dewaxing of heavy vacuum distillate cuts. The paraffinic fraction has lower naphthenic aromatic content and better oxidative stability than naphthenic grades, making it a common base for industrial greases and lubricants.
This fraction is not classified as an aspiration hazard (unlike lighter petroleum fractions) because its molecular weight and viscosity fall above the CLP kinematic viscosity threshold for H304 classification. It does not carry an H315 skin irritation classification at typical lubricant concentrations. Like all petroleum fractions, it is not readily biodegradable and should be kept from drainage to waterways or soil.

Health and environment notes translate the manufacturer Safety Data Sheet, the GHS classification, and authoritative regulatory listings (California Prop 65, EPA). Not medical advice. They describe the ingredient itself; whether a hazard applies to a finished product depends on its concentration and how it's used.
