1-Propoxypropan-2-ol (also known as propylene glycol monopropyl ether, PGPE) is a glycol ether solvent used as a co-solvent in cleaning formulations. It aids in wetting surfaces and dissolving grease. Classified as Flam. Liq. 3 (H226), Eye Irrit. 2 (H319), and STOT SE 3 (H336 — may cause drowsiness or dizziness) at pure substance level. Readily biodegradable (64% in 20 days by BOD). Not classified as an aquatic toxicant. Commonly found in automotive degreasers and all-purpose cleaners at 1–5%.
