Southwire Company, LLC is one of North America's largest wire and cable manufacturers, headquartered in Carrollton, Georgia. Founded in 1950, the company supplies electrical wire, cable, and cord products to the construction, industrial, utility, and consumer markets. In 2014 Southwire acquired Coleman Cable, Inc., expanding its consumer-facing extension cord and cord reel portfolio. Products sold under the Southwire brand in the consumer channel were previously produced and branded by Coleman Cable, and carry Coleman Cable heritage engineering and UPC codes.
Southwire's consumer cord reel and extension cord products are distributed through major home-improvement chains, electrical supply distributors, and online retailers. The brand occupies the commercial-duty tier of the consumer market — positioned above basic residential-grade products but below purpose-built industrial reels (Coxreels, Reelcraft). Quality and certification standards vary by product generation; legacy Coleman Cable models predate current Southwire brand management.
