MAHLE GmbH was founded in Stuttgart in 1920 and has grown into one of the world's largest automotive parts suppliers, with approximately 72,000 employees across 152 production plants in Europe, Asia, the Americas, and beyond. The company supplies original equipment to BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Audi, Volkswagen, Porsche, and other major OEMs — its filters, gaskets, pistons, and HVAC components are specified directly by vehicle manufacturers.

MAHLE's cabin air filters are sold under the LAK (Luftfilter Aktivkohle — activated carbon) and LA (standard) part number series. Because MAHLE manufactures the same components it supplies as OEM, its aftermarket filters are frequently produced in the same German facilities as the branded originals — a distinction that buyers of European vehicles actively seek out.
