Mk8 Golf R on MQB-Evo. EA888 Gen 4 2.0T at 315 hp (US). New rear differential with torque vectoring across the rear axle — the 'Drift Mode' feature. 7-speed DSG; manual was offered briefly. Slightly less playful than the Mk7 R per reviewers but objectively faster. Touch-capacitive interior controls drew the same criticism as Mk8 GTI.
Watch out: Touch-control HVAC and infotainment are the major usability complaints. EA888 Gen 4 long-term data still developing. Haldex fluid and DSG fluid service intervals unchanged from prior generations.
