Mk7 Golf R on the MQB platform. EA888 Gen 3 2.0T at 292 hp (US spec) / 296 hp (later in Europe). 4Motion all-wheel drive via Haldex coupling. Manual or 7-speed DSG. The Mk7.5 R (2018-2019) added launch control improvements. Considered one of the best all-around AWD hot hatches ever sold.

Watch out: Same EA888 Gen 3 carbon-buildup and PCV concerns as Mk7 GTI. Haldex AWD coupling requires fluid service every 40k miles — frequently neglected and a common cause of AWD-related complaints on used cars. DSG fluid service mandatory.
